Anthony Sands is our Founder and CEO at Edge Yachts. His maritime career spans a wide range of yachts and commercial vessels and he also has many years’ experience in the financial and real estate sectors, which gives him a unique insight into managing superyacht budgets. He has represented the owner on a range of award-winning new build superyacht projects with the most prestigious yachtbuilders in the world. Here he shares some insight into his motivations and what he enjoys most about working in the demanding and high-pressure world of yacht management…
What do you enjoy most about your job at Edge Yachts?
The characters and the variety; due to the people we work with and the clients we serve, each day produces new challenges which – for some reason – I really enjoy tackling. It takes a very special person to captain a large yacht and deliver the unique experience an owner is looking for. The guys we work with are as professional as they come, and they also know how to have a good time.
What is it that is most challenging in a good way about your role?
Solving problems in our business usually involves multiple moving parts, including logistics and crew. The key is to get it done with as many winners on conclusion as possible. The only caveats being: the owner always wins, and that costs don’t get out of control.
What is the most satisfying thing about working with superyachts?
I like to work with the best. In our business get the opportunity to do that, and always be striving to do it better. Mediocre has never been acceptable to me, and I find this to be the common thread with the people we work with and for.
